Las flores de las Gencianas crecen por doquier, cubriendo pastos, brezales e incluso laderas rocosas. La genciana es flor fácilmente identificable, grandes y solitarias. Según especies, las flores pueden ser azules-violáceas, de unos seis centímetros de longitud y sin apenas tallo (Gentiana kochiana), o amarillas en el caso de la Gentiana lutea o Genciana mayor, esta última con flores encima de plantas recias y erectas que pueden llegar a medir hasta dos metros. Otras flores que acompañan a las anteriores son la rosa silvestre y la flor del sauco.
